How do I operate The Mingo?
- Insert inverted spray paint can until it clicks.
- Loosen wing nut until wheel rotates easily.
Gently drag The Mingo backwards on log at least 18 inches or until wheel stops turning and stop when paint nozzle is directly over the edge of the log. - Roll The Mingo down the log keeping the paint can in a straight vertical position, yes it is that easy and fast.
- When finished, always clear the nozzle of paint. Always rotate the wheel backwards manually until the can hits the trigger and tighten the wing nut to prevent accidental spraying.
How do I install the paint can?
- This tool uses inverted spray paint. A traditional spray paint can will not operate with this tool.
- On paint cans, always follow the manufacturer's instructions.
- Shake paint for one minute after the ball rattles. Remove plastic cap from paint can.
- Turn the Mingo upside down and insert the can, ensuring the nozzle goes through the hole in the trigger.
Then, turn the Mingo right side up and you're ready to go. Always remember to clear the nozzle of paint when not in use.
What brand of marking paint should I purchase?
- The specific type of can requires sideways motion of the nozzle to cause spraying, however there are inverted marking paints on the market that require the nozzle to be depressed to spray. These will not operate.
- A specific brand will not work better than the other. Use what you prefer.
- The paint is referred to as inverted contractors paint or surveyors paint.
- This paint may be purchased at any local hardware store of your choice.
-
How do I adjust for different length marking?
Remove the wing nut, bolt and current wheel, then install the wheel of your choice marked with the proper numbers.
This is to maintain a proper nozzle-to-log distance and also keeps a correct can-to-trigger position. No tools are required for this simple task. -
How do I take care of The Mingo?
The Mingo is chemical resistant but not chemical proof. To clean the wheel of pitch and bark use a brass wire brush. UV rays are hard on plastic and bleach out any colors that are added, so we recommend that you store it out of direct sunlight. Occasionally apply a small amount of grease on the wheel if necessary. Always clear nozzle of paint when not being used.
No other maintenance is required. -
What color paint should I purchase?
Fluorescent paints have more of a tendency to plug prematurely, so we recommend reds, whites and blues as the best performers.
-
How much will one can of paint mark?
Up to 75 cords or up to 5 miles. This will vary depending on the diameter of the log, distance between paint marks and at what speed you roll THE MINGO®.
-
What safety precautions should I implement?
Always follow label instructions on paint can. Keep out of reach of children. Always rotate wheel backwards and tighten wing nut when not in use to minimize accidental spraying. Always wear OSHA approved eye protection. Always wear gloves. Never rotate wheel manually while nozzle is pointed at yourself or others.
